Why You Shouldn’t Put off Sponsoring Your Spouse or Children Until You Become a United States Citizen
Did you know that the processing time from application to receipt of Green Card for your spouse or children (under 21 and unmarried) when you are a Long-term Permanent Resident (“LPR”) aren’t different then if you are a United States Citizen (“USC”)?
If you are an LPR and have a spouse or unmarried children under age 21 who apply for a Green Card with you as their sponsor, the entire process can take as little as 2 years. If you are a USC and you want to bring your adult, unmarried children to the US it can take up to 7 years.
Many people think they must wait to become a USC before starting the application process for your spouse or children. This is not true. If you are an LPR, don’t wait to become a USC in order to sponsor your family. Do it today!
